On the correlation between small-scale velocity and scalar characteristics in a turbulent channel flow

Robert Antonia, Discipline of Mechanical Engineering, University of Newcastle, Callaghan, Australia

Direct numerical simulations of a turbulent channel flow with passive scalar transport have been used to examine the characteristics of small-scale velocity and scalar fields.

The interrelationship between the vorticity and scalar derivative vectors will be discussed in terms of mean-square values, anisotropy invariant maps, spectra, two-point correlations and instantaneous flow visualizations.
