Large eddy simulations and subgrid scale modelling of turbulent shear flows
Pierre Comte, Laboratoire d'Etudes Aérodynamiques (LEA), Poitiers, France
Large-Eddy Simulation has proved to be a very useful and promising method to better understand the dynamics of organized vortices
and match the statistics of an increasing range of shear flows, ranging from academic to industrial configurations. The underlying
formalism will be introduced in the first talk, together with the rationale behind the development of some succesful subrid-scale
models.
Examples of applications will be presented, with an increasing level of flow complexity (mixing layers, boundary layers, pulsating
or supersonic channel flow, transonic cavity flow and its control).
